Delhi Weather: 110 Flights Delayed, 25 Cancelled Due To Fog. Train Ops Also Affected

Passengers were stuck at Delhi airport and railway station after flight and train operations took a hit due to fog.

Fog continues to hit flight and train operations in North India including the national capital leaving passengers stuck at airports and railway stations. On Wednesday, several flights and trains got either dealyed or cancelled due to fog in several parts of the country. Around 110 flights, both domestic and international to and from Delhi were delayed while 25 were cancelled due to dense fog in the last 10 hours as on Wednesday morning, reported IANS quoting airport sources as saying.

As flight and train schedules took a hit, several passengers could be seen waiting at air and rail terminals for their journey. 

"I have come from Dubai. My flight was delayed by 2:00 hours...My flight had been rescheduled for today," Mritunjay Kumar, a passenger at Delhi airport told news agency ANI. 

Similar scenes could be seen at Delhi railway station.    

"I have to travel to Kerala. My train- Kerala Express is five hours late from the scheduled time," Ajay, a passenger at Delhi railway stationtold the news agency.

According to India Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during next five days. 

Visibility dropped to 300 metres at around 11 pm on Tuesday which continued over the night and at 8:30 a.m Wednesday it was 600 metres, the weatherman said.

Road traffic has also been affected by the fog as two people were killed in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar on Tuesday their tractor fell into a canal amid reduced visibility due to a thick fog cover, reported PTI quoting police as saying. 

Taking note of the fog-related disruption, Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said that the Delhi airport has been asked to expedite the operationalisation of the CAT III-enabled 4th runway. He also said that a standard operating procedure will be formulated by the DGCA for airlines on better communication and facilitation of passengers to minimise discomfort in view of flight cancellations & delays due to adverse weather
