Delhi News: 21-Year-Old Dies In Explosion While Making Firecrackers At Home

The victim, Himanshu, likely mixed sulphur and potash at home to make firecrackers in Northeast Delhi which resulted in the blast.

A 21-year-old man lost his life in an explosion while preparing fireworks in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the victim, identified as Himanshu, was combining powdered sulphur and potash at his residence, resulting in the explosion, according to news agency PTI.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey stated that they received a distress call at 2:10 PM on Friday reporting a man injured in a blast at a residence.

Following the explosion, Himanshu was rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries around 8:30 PM.

Later, the Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Team visited the site to collect evidence.

A police officer told ANI that the probable reason for the blast seems to be that the deceased was mixing Sulphur and Potash to make firecrackers at home, but it exploded and he was injured badly.

This comes only days after a similar incident that claimed the lives of two people in North Delhi. According to an Indian Express report, victims Gaurav Kumar, 20, and his friend Sahil Singh, 21, were trying to make firecrackers at home in the Tikri Khurd village in Narela when a blast occurred and they sustained severe burn injuries. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital by neighbours and friends where they were declared “brought dead”.

Ravi Kumar Singh, DCP (Outernorth) told The Indian Express that they found Gaurav put up a stall for Diwali and other festivals where he sells lamps, cotton, oil lamps, and firecrackers. They found potash and sulphur at his home and that appeared to be the substances which were mixed and exploded.

The manufacturing, storage, sale, online delivery, and bursting of any type of firecrackers is banned in Delhi.
