Manipuri Couple, 2 Others Assaulted In Delhi For Objecting To ‘Lewd Comments’. Video Goes Viral

In southeast Delhi, two men and two women from Manipur fell victim to an assault by a group of eight to nine people. The incident was captured on a mobile phone from a nearby balcony and has since circulated widely on social media.

Two men and two women from Manipur were subjected to assault by a group of eight to nine people on a street in southeast Delhi's Sunlight Colony. The shocking incident, which unfolded on Thursday night, was captured on a mobile phone from a balcony across the street and has since been widely circulated on social media. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against several unknown accused on Friday night, with charges, including sexual assault, as reported by NDTV citing a police officer at Sunlight Colony.

According to a report from India Today, a woman from Manipur's Meitei community was allegedly assaulted by individuals from the Kuki community. A preliminary investigation by the police suggests a case of a personal dispute, indicating that both parties are acquainted with each other.

‘Man Who Asked For Help Started Passing Lewd Comments Against My Wife And Sister’: Complainant In Delhi Assault Incident

Outside the Sunlight Colony police station, the complainant, whose family bore the brunt of the attack, informed reporters that the faces of two of the accused were clearly visible on CCTV footage. He narrated the experience, stating, "My wife and I and my sister were dropping a friend home after dinner at 11 pm when two men and a woman approached us, saying their mobile battery is dead, and they need help to book a cab to Munirka (in south Delhi)", as quoted by NDTV's report.

He continued, "We agreed to help. While booking the cab, the man who asked for help started passing lewd comments against my wife and sister. When we objected to their behaviour, they became aggressive, called some eight-nine of their friends and started beating us." He stated that the details provided in the FIR were corroborated with the mobile video and CCTV footage, the report mentioned.

The mobile footage shows the victims—a man, his wife, his sister, and a family friend—being subjected to punches, kicks, and dragging on the narrow street by the assailant group. The male victim, bearing a black eye and swollen cheeks, recounted his experience, expressing shock at the turn of events after offering assistance.

His wife, who endured physical abuse during the attack, described the ordeal, "We were walking when they asked for help to book a cab, and this is what they have done to us."

"I thought I was going to die, everyone was going to die as they did not stop beating us, no one stopped them too," she said as she showed bruises on her knees, as per NDTV.

In a statement, the police confirmed that the man was taken to the hospital, where doctors reported abrasions on the knees, redness, and swelling in the eyes, along with swelling on the forehead—indicating a serious assault. The officials said they are actively working to nab all the perpetrators, starting with the two men identified in the CCTV footage.
