Kanjhawala Victim Was With Another Girl Who Fled Spot After Accident: What We Know So Far

A new CCTV footage shows the victim with another girl. Police say the girl fled from the spot after the accident.

New Delhi: In a fresh development in the Kanjhawala accident case, cops have revealed that another girl was there at the time of the accident with the deceased. According to the police, this girl fled from the spot after the scooty of the victim got hit by the car.

Here's What We Know So Far In The Case

  • A 20-year-old girl was killed after her scooty was hit by a car and was being dragged by it for a few kilometres in the national capital’s Kanjhawala area in Sultanpuri on Sunday. 
  • Anjali was riding along a small road when the car, a premium hatchback, hit her, trapping her under it. The five persons, who were travelling in the car — Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26), Manoj Mittal (27) — were later arrested.
  • Deepak Dahiya, an eyewitness told news agency ANI that the girl’s body was dragged for about 18-20 kilometres which lasted around one and a half hours.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday asked for a detailed report from Delhi police on the accident.
  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday called the Kanjhawala death case unfortunate and demanded strict action against the accused.
  • Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed his anger over the incident and said that he was shocked at the “monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators.” 
  • My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawala-Sultanpuri today morning,” the LG's tweet read.
  • The victim was the sole bread-earner of her family and supported an ailing mother and four siblings who lived with her. Her father died last year.
  • She supported her family and paid for her mother's dialysis by working part-time at an event management company, which also meant that she had to work late at night.
  • Protests erupted outside the Sultanpuri Police Station in outer Delhi on Monday, with locals seeking fast justice for the deceased.
  • Protesters demanded that the guys who dragged a woman for 12 kilometres beneath their automobile be punished. (Source: PTI)
  • According to the Delhi Police, Deepak and Amit had borrowed the car from one of their friends around 7 pm on December 31, 2022 and parked it at their house around 5 am on January 1, 2023.
