Sambhal Voilence: SP Delegation Gives Rs 5 Lakh To Victims, MP Barq Says 'Country Ashamed Of Incident'

The delegation comprised several SP leaders, including party MP Iqra Hasan, local MLA Iqbal Mehmood, and Sambhal violence-accused MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq.

A delegation from the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday reached violence-affected Sambhal and handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh each as compensation to the kin of the victims of the November violence.

Mata Prasad Pandey said that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had asked them to give Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in Sambhal.

Sambhal MP Zia-ur-Rahman Barq, speaking on the delegation visit to the city said, "The entire country is ashamed of the incident that happened in Sambhal… It is a reality that Sambhal is a peaceful place and for over 39 years there have been no differences between Hindus and Muslims here... We are raising this issue everywhere... The only regret is that our people were killed and the blame for it was also put on our people... We have complete faith in our Constitution and in court. We are sure that even if the police and government do not do justice the court will be fair to us."

This development comes around a month after Akhilesh Yadav had promised to compensate victims of the Sambhal violence. During the court-ordered Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24, during a second round of survey, protesting locals clashed with security personnel, leading to a major violence which led to death of four people and injuries to dozens.

The police have so far arrested 50 people after the November violence. Superintendent (SP) Krishnan Kumar Bishnoi, while speaking to ANI, said that 50 people have been arrested, while the search is on for 91 people connected with the violence.
