Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Drama Ensues In Court As 2 Lawyers Rush To Represent Bangladeshi Accused

Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: At a court hearing for police custody of Mohammad Shehzad, accused of attacking Saif Ali Khan, two lawyers vied to represent him, resulting in the magistrate to intervene.

Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: A dramatic scene unfolded at the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai on Sunday when two lawyers competed to represent Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national arrested for allegedly attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The magistrate ultimately suggested that both lawyers appear together for the accused, bringing the focus back to the remand proceedings.

Shehzad, 30, was arrested by Mumbai Police from Thane city on Sunday morning for allegedly sneaking into Khan’s Bandra residence in the early hours of January 16 with the intention of theft and repeatedly stabbing him. He was produced before the court amid heavy police presence.

During the proceedings, the court asked Shehzad if he had any complaints against the police, to which he replied in the negative. He was then taken to the accused persons' box at the back of the courtroom, news agency PTI reported. The situation turned chaotic when a lawyer stepped forward, claiming to represent Shehzad and attempting to get his signature on the vakalatnama (legal document authorising representation). However, another lawyer rushed to the accused’s box and obtained Shehzad’s signature first, leading to confusion over legal representation.

To resolve the matter, the magistrate intervened, telling both lawyers, "You both can appear." The duo agreed, and the proceedings continued, as per PTI. The court subsequently remanded Shehzad in police custody for five days.

According to police, Shehzad hails from Jhalokathi district in southern Bangladesh's Barisal division. He had been living in Mumbai for the past five months, working in petty jobs, including at a housekeeping agency.
