Who Is Adil Hussain Thokar? Once A Promising Student Now Pahalgam Terror Attack 'Mastermind'

Adil Hussain Thokar, a former promising student, is now a suspected mastermind of a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India.

Adil Hussain Thokar who was once considered a promising student is now under the radar of the authorities as a suspected mastermind of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam where 26 civilians were killed in cold blood.

Six foreign terrorists, disguised as Army personnel targeted victims based on their religion, asking them to identify themselves and recite Islamic verses before opening fire.

The incident has drawn criticism from various quarters nationally and globally.

'Promising, Introvert Student'

Adil was known as a promising and introvert student who was pursuing his master's degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), according to a report by The Times of India.

He completed his graduation from Governemt Degree College in Khanabal, Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. He was also working part-time as a teacher while preparing for competetive exams, as per the report.

His neighbours described him as "not very social, but focused on studies" and "quiet, decent, and studious."

His family lives modestly, with one brother working as a painter while another is employed at an automobile showroom.

Adil Goes Missing

On April 29, 2018, he left for Budgam to appear for an exam and never returned home since then. Adil's family and the villagers believe he has been missing and filed a report three days later.

However, intelligence agencies have confirmed that he crossed over to Pakistan on a study visa where he met with radical leaders and became involved in anti-national activities, the report stated.

Reportedly, he crossed the Line of Control last year to re-enter India.

Adil's mother, Shazada Bano insisted that the family has not heard from him since April 29, 2018. "After that his phone was swtiched off," she said. The mother said she cannot accept that her son was involved in such an incident but added that if he is involved, "the forces can act accordinngly."

She also appealed for Adil to surrender so that her family could live in peace.
