Kanwar Yatra: 6 Injured In Clash Between 2 Groups In Gurugram, 14-Day March Concludes In Haridwar

Kanwar Yatra: Six kanwariyas were injured in a clash between two groups in Gurugram. The conflict stemmed from a dispute over use of DJ. The nearly fortnight-long Kanwar fair concluded on Friday.

Kanwar Yatra: Six individuals were injured in a violent clash between two groups of dak kanwariyas in Gurugram's Prem Nagar Colony, according to police reports on Friday. The altercation occurred around 8:30 am when members of one group were returning from a temple after offering water, only to be attacked by the opposing group. The conflict originated from a dispute on 27 July over the use of a DJ between the groups from Rajiv Nagar and Prem Nagar's slum area, news agency PTI reported. Although the issue had been resolved at that time, tensions remained, with threats of future retaliation.

The clash on Friday escalated as both groups hurled stones at each other, resulting in injuries to six kanwariyas, PTI reported. Three of the injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the others have been discharged after receiving first aid. Some vehicles were also damaged during the melee.

Police arrived at the scene promptly and managed to disperse the crowds. No formal complaints have been filed by either group as of yet. According to PTI, Assistant Commissioner of Police Surender Phogat stated, "We are working to identify those responsible using CCTV footage and will take strict action against the perpetrators."

Kanwar Yatra Concludes In Haridwar

In related news, the nearly fortnight-long Kanwar fair concluded on Friday with a significant turnout of devotees participating in the Shiv Chaturdashi celebrations in Haridwar. Devotees flocked to temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, including the Daksheshwar Mahadev temple in Kankhal, to perform the ritual of jalabhishek with Ganga water. It is believed that Lord Shiva resides at the Daksheshwar Mahadev temple during the month of Shravan and fulfills the wishes of those who offer milk, honey, bel patra, and Ganga Jal.

Haridwar District Magistrate Dheeraj Garbyal and Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal were among the officials who performed jalabhishek with water collected from Har ki Pauri as the 14-day yatra concluded, PTI reported. This year, approximately 4.5 crore kanwariyas visited Haridwar to collect Ganga water during the fair.
