Noida: Two GBU Students Among Three Held For Knocking Police Barricade With SUV—On Cam

The arrested individuals were identified as Nishant Pandit, his brother Sourabh Pandit, and their friend Aryakeet are all residents of Ecotech 3.

Three young men were arrested in Greater Noida after a video showing an SUV dragging a police barricade went viral on social media. Among the arrested individuals, two of the accused are students of Gautam Buddha University. The video, which went viral, was uploaded in February

The arrested individuals were identified as Nishant Pandit, his brother Sourabh Pandit, and their friend Aryakeet are all residents of Ecotech 3. They were apprehended by the Dankaur police on Monday along the Jaypee Sports City main road. Authorities also seized the SUV featured in the video, a Mahindra Scorpio registered under Sourabh's name.

The video, which began circulating online, caught the attention of police after being shared on the social media handle X (formerly Twitter). The viral video showed an SUV speeding as a person in the backseat used his leg to force open the boot, resulting in a police barricade being dragged by the rear wheel for roughly 200 metres.

A pistol-like object was visible inside the car, and a different individual was seen driving. Meanwhile, the geolocation tag indicated the incident occurred near Galgotias University.

"As the location was pinned as Galgotias University, the investigation was handed over to the Dankaur police team. We arrested them on Monday. The video was found to be from Feb," a senior officer told TOI.

Investigation Still Underway

Police stated that in the video, Nishant was driving the car at the time, while Aryakeet was sitting beside him. In addition, the video showed a pistol on the seat of the car, however, officials confirmed that it was a cigarette lighter designed like a pistol.

Investigations revealed that the trio was driving back from a wedding while intoxicated when they encountered the barricade on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

"They dragged the barricade deliberately to shoot a reel and share it with their friends to show off. It was done purely for fun and social media attention," the officer said. Police also said that the matter is still under further investigation.
