Delhi-Bound Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Bengaluru After Engine Failure Mid-Air

An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi made an emergency landing after one of its engines shut off mid-air

A Delhi bound Air India flight made an emergency landing on January 5, after one of its engines shut off midair, sources in the airport told PTI on Tuesday.

As per the information, Air India flight number 2820, Neo powered by CFM LEAP engines, was scheduled to depart Bengaluru at 5:45 pm. However, it took off from the Kempegowda International Airport at about 7 pm. However, an hour later, at around 8:11, it returned after revolving in the air, as reported by Moneycontrol.

Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources confirmed The New Indian Express that one of the engines of the flight failed while it was airborne. “All emergency protocols were followed, and ambulances and firefighters were on standby before the flight landed", an airport source said.

One of the users, tagged Air India on X (formerly Twitter) and posted:

"AI2820
Emergency landing at bangalore airport just now. 
After one hour of panic the fight landed again at bangalore airport."

In reply to the user's post, Air India confirmed that Flight AI 2820 has been returned to Bengaluru due to operational reasons. It added that the decision was taken for the safety of passengers and crew.

The Air India's post read, in reply to the user, "Hi, we are concerned to learn of your experience. Flight AI 2820 has been returned to Bengaluru due to operational reasons. Safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost priority and hence, such decisions are taken. Our team is working diligently to assist all passengers. We appreciate your patience and understanding."
