Bihar: Accused Who Sent Bomb Threat Mail To Chief Minister's Office Arrested From Kolkata

The email was received in the name of Al-Qaeda and a probe was launched into the matter by the police and Anti-Terror Squad.

A 51-year-old man, accused of sending an email containing a bomb threat to Bihar Chief Minister's office has been arrested from Kolkata, said Patna Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajeev Mishra. A police case had been registered on August 2 after the Bihar CMO in Patna received a threat to blow up the building with a bomb. 

The email was received in the name of Al-Qaeda and a probe was launched into the matter by the police and Anti-Terror Squad. 

Patna SSP said that the mobile from which the threatening email was sent has also been recovered and preliminary investigation has revealed that the man is not linked with any terror group, SSP told PTI. 

The accused was arrested from the Bowbazar area of Kolkata and will be brought to Patna after obtaining transit remand, the SSP said. 

The accused, Mohd Zahid is an owner of a small shop on BB Ganguly Street and hails from Bihar's Begusarai district. 

It is not yet clear why he had sent the threat mail on July 16.

"He was arrested by a team of Patna Police from the Bowbazar area of Kolkata on Monday. The mobile phone from which he had sent the mail has also been recovered," Rajeev Mishra said.

The accused will be further questioned once he is brought to the Bihar capital, the SSP said.  

The police had registered the case against unidentified persons under Sections 351 (4) and (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as well as Section 66 (F) of the IT Act.
