Bihar MP Pappu Yadav Seeks Z-Category Security Citing ‘Threat’ From Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

In the letter, the Bihar MP said the threat calls came from an unidentified person, who is associated with the Bishnoi gang.

Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, the Lok Sabha MP from Bihar's Purnea has written to the central government seeking Z security cover following alleged threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's syndicate over the past few days. In a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Yadav claimed that he received multiple calls in the last three days from an individual warning him against making statements against Bishnoi.

The six-time MP sought an upgrade of his security from ‘Y’ to ‘Z’, as per the letter dated October 21. Yadav also claimed that he had written to the Bihar Chief Minister about the threats.

This came weeks after Yadav, in a post on X on October 13, criticized the law and order situation in the country, especially, in Maharashtra, after the assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique and said that if the laws allowed him, he would destroy the network of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in 24 hours.

In the letter, the Bihar MP said the threat calls came from an unidentified person, who is associated with the Bishnoi gang. Apart from that, one call was made by Lawrence Bishnoi himself, he claimed.

“I have been elected as a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly once and as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) six times. During this period, I and my family members have been attacked. Many times, many casteist criminals including the Maoist organization of Nepal have attacked me. I survived by the grace of God. When the extremist organization of Nepal, Maoist, threatened me on my mobile. In 2015, I was kept under Y Plus (The Eight) security cover by the Central Home Department. Again in 2019, my security cover was reduced and I was kept under Y category security cover,” the letter said.

“Today, when Lawrence Bishnoi gang is continuously committing incidents in the country, I being a political person, I opposed the incident. On protesting, the head of Lawrence Bishnoi gang threatened to kill me…Despite such threats, the Home Ministry of Bihar and the Union Home Ministry seem to be inactive towards my security…. I request you to increase my security cover from “Y category” to “Z category” in time.” it added.

Yadav also shared evidence supporting these allegations, including seven voice-recorded calls, four screenshots of WhatsApp call logs with pictures of Lawrence Bishnoi, and a press statement by Mayank Singh, who is also said to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Yadav claimed that the caller also said that Lawrence Bishnoi called him after getting the jammer of Sabarmati Jail Ahmedabad switched off for 10 minutes but he did not pick up the phone.

"Is it an easy task to get the jammer switched off? I considered you as my elder brother and what did you do," the caller said in one of the audio which has been released by Pappu Yadav's office to the media.

In the press statement attributed to Mayank Singh, he addresses Pappu Yadav directly, asking him to “focus on doing politics” and avoid making what he described as “wrong statements” regarding Lawrence Bishnoi. “I want to tell Pappu Yadav clearly that you should focus on doing politics quietly by staying within your limits and do not get into the earning of TRP otherwise I will make you rest in peace,” Mayank Singh's press statement mentions.
