'He Pulled Out A Knife And...': TMC Worker's Brother Recounts Beleghata Horror

A factional feud within the Trinamool Congress in Beleghata, Kolkata turned violent when assailants attacked the brother of a Trinamool worker with a knife.

Kolkata News: Political tensions flared in Beleghata once again as a factional feud within the Trinamool Congress turned violent Monday. Failing to locate their intended target, assailants allegedly attacked the brother of a Trinamool worker with a knife in Rashmoni Bazar locality.

The incident took place in Ward No. 34, where internal conflicts within Trinamool have been a recurring issue. Just days ago, the same ward witnessed a shooting linked to party infighting. This time, the violence escalated when attackers, unable to find their intended target, allegedly turned their aggression toward his brother, stabbing him multiple times.

'Attempted To Slit My Throat'

The victim, recounting the horrifying attack, said: "I was resting in the afternoon while my father was sitting nearby and my mother was working. Suddenly, a man named Sourav Das arrived and demanded to know my brother’s whereabouts. When I told him my brother wasn’t home and asked what the matter was, he insisted that I call him immediately. And suddenly, he pulled out a knife and began stabbing me. I was struck four times, including a blow to my ear."

The victim added: "He even attempted to slit my throat, but I blocked it with my hand. My mother also sustained injuries while trying to protect me. Fortunately, local residents intervened and stopped the attack. Before leaving, the attacker threatened to kill me and my brother."

The man claimed the attack was politically motivated, stating that his brother, an active Trinamool worker, was targeted due to his refusal to align with a rival faction led by Raju Naskar. "Since my brother refused to support their wrongdoings, they sought revenge. When they couldn’t find him, they attacked my family instead," he alleged.

Ongoing Political Violence In Beleghata

This attack comes amid growing unrest in Beleghata’s political landscape. Last month, Trinamool leader Sushanta Saha, also known as Habu, was arrested on multiple charges, including extortion and unlawful confinement. He was accused of forcibly detaining individuals and seizing vehicles, further highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.
