Agra: Taj Mahal 'Disappears' As Thick Fog Blankets World Heritage Site

Uttar Pradesh weather: The dense fog in Agra hit vehicle movement in the city on Friday morning. Tourists had to return disappointed as the Taj Mahal was shrouded in thick fog.

Agra Dense Fog: The winter did bring relief from the "hottest summer" in India's history. However, it is now beginning to affect daily lives as well as tourism. While the intense Cold Wave has North India shivering, tourists hoping to enjoy a view of the Taj Mahal in Agra are having to return disappointed.

Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a severe cold wave. Temperatures have dropped due to icy winds from the mountains. On top of that, fog has brought down visibility near zero in several regions. The Taj Mahal, one of the most-visited tourist spots in the world, has also disappeared in the white blanket of fog.

For the past few days, dense fog is forming in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. Tourists who had come from far and wide to see the Taj Mahal also faced disappointment. Tourists who reached Mehtab Bagh this morning could not see the Taj Mahal.

Visibility Hits Traffic Movement

The impact of the dense fog in Agra was also seen on traffic movement. Vehicles are crawling on the roads as it has become difficult to see even a short distance.

The temperature in Agra has dropped further in the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature in Agra on Thursday was 7.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature during the day was recorded at 18.2 degrees, which was 4.7 degrees lower. The minimum temperature in Agra was forecast to be 9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to be 19 degrees Celsius. The temperature is likely to see a marginal rise from tomorrow.

According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will be seen in the morning and evening. There is a possibility of clouds again around January 6. Light showers may be seen in one or two places. Schools from Class 1 to Class 8 have been declared closed amid the increasing cold wave. The holiday has been announced in Agra till January 14.
