Actress Gargi Cheated Of Rs 45,000 In Online Scam While Selling Washing Machine
Patel had posted an advertisement on her Facebook profile offering a washing machine for sale. Soon after, she was contacted by several individuals.

Popular television and film actress Gargi Maushik Patel has fallen prey to cyber fraud after being conned out of Rs 45,000 by an unidentified scammer posing as a buyer for used household appliances. The incident occurred in Worli, Mumbai, and has since prompted a police investigation.
In April 2025, Patel had posted an advertisement on her Facebook profile offering a washing machine for sale. Soon after, she was contacted by several individuals expressing interest, to whom she shared her mobile number for further communication.
One of the callers, who identified himself as Tarun, reached out on April 18, inquiring about the washing machine. Days later, on April 24, he contacted her again, claiming to be involved in buying and selling used electronic appliances. Patel proceeded to send him images of a dishwasher and an audio receiver, quoting Rs 40,000 for the lot.
The caller then asked for her bank account details to make the payment. Patel said she received Rs 35,000 in her account initially, with the promise of the remaining Rs 5,000 soon. However, moments later, she received a call from the man claiming he had mistakenly transferred Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 5,000 and urgently requested a refund of Rs 45,000.
Trusting his claim, Patel transferred the amount from both her and her husband’s bank accounts. But soon after, the man stopped answering her calls, and the promised balance never arrived.
Police Launch Probe
Realising she had been duped, Patel approached the Worli Police Station, where an FIR was registered against an unidentified person under relevant sections of cybercrime. Authorities have launched an investigation and are trying to trace the accused based on digital footprints.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks of online transactions and the need for greater caution, even for well-known public figures.
