Truck runs over people in Maharashtra

Around 8:30 pm, a car driven by Deepak Atkare from Gevrai went over the divider on a section of National Highway-52 near Gadhi village, roughly 100 km from the city. Later, around 11:30 pm, while some people were trying to remove the car from the spot, a speeding truck ran over them. Six people lost their lives, and one person was injured, reported PTI.

The deceased were identified as Balu Atkare, Bhagwat Paralkar, Sachin Nannavre, Manoj Karande, Krushna Jadhav, and Deepak Surayya, all residents of Georai in Beed, officials said.

Former BJP MLA Deshmukh dies in road accident

Recently, former Maharashtra MLA and BJP leader from Beed district, R T Deshmukh, died in a road accident on Monday evening in Latur district, a police official confirmed. The incident occurred around 4:15 pm on a flyover near Belkund village while Deshmukh was travelling in an SUV along the Tuljapur-Latur road in central Maharashtra.

"While the car was on the initial stretch of the flyover, it jumped over the crash barrier and rolled down twice. Four policemen from a nearby outpost quickly came and pulled out the car driver and Deshmukh from the badly damaged car with the help of local residents," the official said.

Deshmukh, who was seated on the left side of the car, was rushed to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, the official said. The driver of the car was also injured and is currently receiving treatment. Deshmukh served as the BJP MLA from Majalgaon in Beed district between 2014 and 2019.
