X Post On Empty Co-working Space At 6:30 PM In Bengaluru Triggers Debate On Toxic Work Culture

This issue again became a topic of debate on social media after an X (formerly Twitter) post by Sagar Lele, which featured an empty co-working space at 6:30 PM, triggering extensive debate

Talks around the work culture and increasing pressure on young people to work extended hours to stay competitive globally are never-ending and have escalated recently. This issue again became a topic of debate on social media after an X (formerly Twitter) post by Sagar Lele, which featured an empty co-working space at 6:30 PM, triggering extensive debate.

Lele's post, condemning professionals for departing work early, stated, "There was a time when I'd have to reach office at 7 am and leave at 2 am for me to be the first to reach and last to leave. This is a co-working space in Bangalore at 6:30 pm. Shame,” wrote the founder of Rupeeting.

Since it was posted online, the tweet has accumulated over 580,000 views and garnered over a thousand likes, sparking numerous responses.

“Did not get it. R u sad about what u had to do or r u jealous of what is happening. Seems they r satisfied to be doing whatever and might be enuf for them. It can be any of the several reasons. Everyone works as per their need. Ur timing was ur need. This timing is thr need,” wrote one of the X users.

Another user wrote, “What did you expect, GOLD MEDAL? Sorry but no, people are smart these days. More time doesn’t mean more output. Putting concentrated 8 hrs is very productive. Rest of the time is for family and for ownself.”

“When I was in the US, employees would reach office before 8 and leave by 4-5pm. We Indians would reach by 9am and leave by 8pm). However they would just take a 30min break for lunch and walk and just work. No personal calls, no chit chat and gossip,” added another X user.

One of the comment reads: “There was a time when I’d reach at 9 but leave at 2-3-4am depending on deliverables. I decided to run my own firm and make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone working with me. 7 years in business and fortunately all are on time.”
