Bank Holidays September: Banks To Be Shut For 12 Days, Check Full Bank Holidays List

Out of 12 holidays, six days will be comprise of weekend offs (the second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays) and the remaining six are state-specific holidays.

New Delhi: With the onset of the festive season, banks will not operate for 12 days in September on account of holidays across various regions in the country. The holidays also include the official off on second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays.

Some of these holidays may differ depending on whether the state observes the occasion, but banks will remain closed on public holidays. Banks are also closed only on gazetted holidays.

The RBI mandated bank holidays based on Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

Out of 12 holidays, six days will be comprised of weekend offs (the second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays) and the remaining six are state-specific holidays.

Here are occasions when banks will remain closed

  • On Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, banks will be shut in Guwahati on September 8.
  • On account of Teej (Haritalika) and Indrajatra respectively, banks will be shit in Gangtok on September 9 and September 20
  • On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi which starts on September 10, banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Panaji.
  • On the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi, banks will continue to remain close in Panaji and other places as it falls on the second Saturday.
  • On account of Karma Puja on September 17, banks will remain closed in Ranchi.
  • On account of Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day on September 21, banks will remain closed in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. 

While the bank branches will remain closed on these days, mobile and internet banking will remain functional as usual. Customers can make transactions through online modes.
