New Delhi: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will step down as CEO today. Amazon executive Andy Jassy will take over the role of CEO in his place. Exactly 27 years ago, on this day in 1994, the Amazon company was started.

The company had said in February 2021 that Bezos would step down as the company's CEO but didn't provide any specific date. The company had said that after leaving the post of CEO, he would take on the new role of executive chairman.

Bezos has said he will have more time for other projects, including the philanthropy work run by his space exploration company Blue Origin and overseeing the Washington Post. Amazon currently employs 1.3 million people and serves millions of people and businesses around the world.
