Worried About Renewal Of Driving Licences? Govt Extends Validity Till June

The decision was taken to tackle inconveniences faced by people in renewing the validity of driving licence and other documents related to Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

New Delhi, March 31: Those worried about the renewal of their driving licences can breathe a sigh of relief as the government has extended the validity of driving licences till June end. The government has extended the validity of all driving licences and other documents related to Motor Vehicle Act expiring on February 1 and June 30. Worried About Renewal Of Driving Licences? Govt Extends Validity Till June Representational Image: AFP In order to provide relief to transporters, the ministry of road transport and highways made this declaration in view of the closure of government transport offices due to the nationwide lockdown. The decision was taken to tackle inconveniences faced by people in renewing the validity of driving licence and other documents related to Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. It includes the validity of fitness, permits (all types), driving license, registration or any other concerned documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely be processed due to lockdown. Even the enforcement authorities have been asked to treat such documents valid till June 30. 'Non-use clause facility' for transport vehicles for suspensions of tax liability, which is operational in a number of states and the facility is being provided by the NIC on the VAHAN platform online, may be adopted by the other states to give relief to the commercial vehicles like taxi, bus and other vehicles which are non-operational under the current circumstances, the order mentioned. The ministry has requested all the states and the Union Territories to implement this advisory in "letter and spirit" so that the people, the transporters and various organisations, which are rendering essential services at this difficult time, may not get harassed and face difficulties amidst national lockdown.
