Godrej Group Splits: The separation is described as an 'ownership realignment in a statement issued by the group
The founding family of the 127-year-old Godrej Group has agreed to split the conglomerate, creating two distinct business groups. Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir Godrej will retain control of Godrej Industries, which comprises five listed firms, while their cousins Jamshyd Godrej and Smita Godrej Crishna will take over unlisted Godrej & Boyce and its affiliated businesses along with a substantial land bank, including prime property in Mumbai.
The separation is described as an 'ownership realignment in a statement issued by the group. The move aims to preserve harmony within the family while acknowledging differing visions. Both branches will continue to use the Godrej brand and focus on growth and strengthening their shared heritage.

Future Plans and Changes
To facilitate the split, each branch has exited the boards of companies in rival groups. Adi and Nadir left Godrej & Boyce’s board, while Jamshyd stepped down from the boards of GCPL and Godrej Properties.
Unconfirmed reports suggest a potential divestment of Adi and Nadir's stakes in Godrej & Boyce to the other branch, and a transfer of interests in Godrej Consumer Products and Godrej Properties to Adi and Nadir's branch through a family arrangement.
Jamshyd Godrej expressed confidence in the split enabling better focus on core strengths and strategic innovation, driving growth for the future.
Nadir Godrej said the company’s deep purpose of nation-building and commitment to continuing the legacy of innovation, trust, and respect that the company has upheld for 125 years.
The Godrej family’s historic split marks a significant change in the control and management of one of India’s oldest and most respected business groups. Regulatory approvals are still pending, and the realignment is set to be implemented once these are obtained.
