Fuelling Innovation: How Rise Of 5G-Enabled Tech Changes Surveillance And Security Landscape

With IoT and 5G, India is not merely keeping pace with global advancements but leading the way in shaping a safer and more secure future for all its citizens

5G technology has transformed the landscape of the security and surveillance sector especially when coupled with the Internet of Things (IoT). The global market for IoT in surveillance will reach $52 billion by 2025. These advancements are revolutionising the way security is maintained and surveillance is conducted, especially in India with its diversity.

With IoT and 5G, India is not merely keeping pace with global advancements but leading the way in shaping a safer and more secure future for all its citizens. Here are five ways in which the rise of 5G-enabled technology has changed the landscape of surveillance and security.

Enhanced Device Connectivity

5G has been a boon for tech-based tools, especially for device connectivity. As compared to previous networks, 5G is capable of supporting a significantly higher number of connected devices. This makes it especially helpful for the densely populated Indian urban cities and at the same time cover vast rural areas. 5G has allowed for the deployment of an extensive network of IoT sensors and devices that can be used to enhance the security infrastructure. For instance, the smart city initiatives in India can leverage IoT sensors to monitor traffic flow, detect accidents, and identify congestion points. These insights have enhanced safety and security. With the sheer volume of vehicles on Indian roads, this technology has the potential to save lives and improve the overall quality of life.

Wearable Security

Wearable security devices for all loved ones be it elderly, children or pets have become commonplace thanks to 5G. IoT-enabled wearable devices provide an additional tier of personal security for individuals in India. These devices are capable of transmitting distress signals or alerts during emergencies. These devices hold further promise and innovation. Imagine a wearable device programmed to automatically send an SOS signal to law enforcement or family members when it detects a sudden fall or unusual heart rate patterns, ensuring prompt assistance in critical moments!

Real-time Data Transmission

5G has ultra-low latency which often clocks in at less than 1 millisecond. In terms of security and surveillance, this low latency has been a game-changer. IoT devices such as surveillance cameras, sensors, and alarms can now provide real-time information, enabling immediate responses to potential threats. This is particularly valuable in a country as vast as India especially geographically with its diverse landscapes and challenging terrains. 5G-enabled drones/security systems can cover these massive grounds offering live feed etc., making them indispensable tools in safeguarding critical assets.

E-Governance and Public Safety

5G-supported IoT plays a pivotal role in enhancing e-governance projects focused on elevating public safety. Smart city solutions encompass intelligent street lighting and emergency response systems. Smart streetlights can autonomously intensify illumination based on pedestrian traffic. Thus, conserving energy when streets lie vacant. In addition to this, the vast amount of data generated by IoT devices and the speed of 5G networks, has helped predictive analytics becomes more accurate. Law enforcement agencies in India can leverage this technology to anticipate criminal activities and allocate resources more efficiently.

Enhanced healthcare

In India's vast healthcare sector, the fusion of IoT with 5G technology has helped in enhancing patient safety and fortifying healthcare facilities. IoT sensors, equipped with 5G connectivity help in enhancing real-time monitoring, ensuring secure access control, sanitation compliance, and equipment tracking. In a country striving for advanced healthcare, this leap in security technology ensures that medical institutions can operate efficiently. This is especially instrumental during the time of crisis. For instance, the unfortunate pandemic time requires enhanced action for the well-being of both patients and medical staff. IoT (Internet of Things) devices have emerged as invaluable tools in this context, providing comprehensive solutions to address these challenges. In addition to this, 5G has made it possible to implement robust security measures and protect sensitive, personal health data. This is especially beneficial now that we are moving towards a Digital India.

Besides this, 5G can be leveraged to empower real-time monitoring of environmental conditions to allow swift responses to events such as floods, earthquakes, or wildfires. From preventing crimes through predictive analytics to safeguarding healthcare facilities and conserving the environment, 5G-enabled tech is propelling the surveillance and security industry into an era of unparalleled innovation.
