From Face Authentication To Doorstep Banking, Know How Pensioners Can Submit Annual Life Certificate Online

The government has introduced several options through which a pensioner can submit life certificates digitally from the comfort of their homes

It’s that time of the year when pensioners need to start submitting their Life Certificates, also known as Jeevan Pramaan to ensure the continuity of their pension. Pensioners aged 80 years and above can submit their life certificates in October under a special provision. A pensioner can submit the certificate physically by visiting banks, and post offices but it can also be submitted online from the comfort of their homes.

The traditional mode required a pensioner to personally visit the pension disbursing authority for submitting their Life Certificate physically. However, it was not so inconvenient for the old and ailing. Therefore, the government has introduced several modes through which one can send life certificates digitally.

Here are ways one can use to manually or digitally submit an annual life certificate:

Jeevan Pramaan portal

Pensioners can submit their life certificates online through the Jeevan Pramaan Portal. For this, you will need to download the Jeevan Pramaan app from the portal. You need to submit fingerprints using UIDAI-mandated equipment. An OTG cable can be used to link a fingerprint device to a mobile phone. The Jeevan Pramaan portal has a list of UIDAI-mandated devices.

Doorstep Banking

For availing the doorstep banking you need to download Doorstep Banking App. Here you need to select the bank and place a request for doorstep service to submit a Life Certificate. Once the request is submitted, you will get an SMS mentioning the name of the agent. Soon, the bank agent will visit your home to complete the Life Certificate submission process.

Submission of life certificate through postman

The Department of Posts along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) also initiated the Doorstep Service to submit Life Certificate digitally through Postman in November 2020. Here also, a pensioner needs to download the Postinfo App from Google Playstore.

Face authentication technology system

Based on UIDAI Aadhaar software, pensioners can also submit Life Certificates through Face Authentication technology system. With this method, a Digital Life Certificate can be created from any Android-based smartphone by taking a live photo of the pensioner and uploading it online to the Jeevan Pramaan mobile application. Recently, Bank of Baroda (BoB) also launched "Video Life Certificate" (VLC) service for pensioners allowing them to submit Life Certificates through a simple video call from the comfort of their homes.
