Former Software Engineer Creates Basic AI Photo App, Generates Rs 8.4 Crore Monthly Revenue

YouTuber Hitesh Choudhary recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he developed the app three months ago and has been sharing tutorials on building similar applications

A former software engineer from Jaipur has highlighted the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) tools in non-tech industries. He revealed that a simple photo editing app he developed is generating Rs 8.4 crore in monthly revenue.

YouTuber Hitesh Choudhary recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he developed the app three months ago and has been sharing tutorials on building similar applications.

“Never realised there was such high demand for AI in non-tech sectors,” he wrote. “I built a simple AI-powered app that helps people modify photos (remove backgrounds, adjust saturation) and add text. After three months, I’m now at $10,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR). I’ve covered all of this in my YouTube videos.”

"Never knew that there is this much AI demand in non-tech segment. Built a really basic AI powered app that helps people to modify photos (remove background and some saturation) and write some text for a platform. After 3 months, I am at $10,000 MRR [monthly recurring revenue]. I taught all of this in my videos on YouTube,” he added.

Choudhary also mentioned that he doesn’t want to focus too much on coding for non-tech markets. "Building for coders is a tough market, non-tech market is easier to crack. I don’t want to get it popular now. Stay invisible,” he said.

When asked about the marketing strategy he used for his services, Choudhary shared that his first client, who was also a friend, handled distribution through WhatsApp. “The secret is that I charged my very first client/friend. He took care of the distribution in the supply chain, sharing the app in his WhatsApp group, and that’s how it started spreading,” he explained. The YouTuber also mentioned that he runs several offline businesses, "classic Marwari style."

Users on X praised Choudhary for achieving the impressive milestone, commending his entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach. “Yes sir, these project ideas are actually dominating the market of editing photos because AI does stuff like removing/replacing backgrounds and other things handled by the editor. It acts the same way the copilot and other extensions do in the coding environment,” wrote one of the X users.

Another user added, “Business just wants to get things done, dont care how its done, so ready to pour money into ai, without most even understanding whether they need it or not. As per my observation working with few clients in recent years. Do correct if I am wrong.”
