Paytm, FedEx, Airbnb, HSBC & Others Down As Akamai Faces Global Outage

New Delhi: Servers of digital payment platform Paytm went down on Thursday evening resulting in customers across the country facing issues while make payments or performing other transactions. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma acknowledged the issue and said Akamai seems to be going through an outage.

“Akamai seems to be going thru an outage,” Sharma posted on Twitter.

Akamai, too, confirmed a global outage.

Akamai is a global content delivery network, cybersecurity, and cloud service company, providing web and Internet security services various leading tech platforms including Paytm.

“We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service. We are actively investigating the issue. If you have questions or are experiencing impact due to this issue, please contact Akamai Technical Support. In the interest of time, we are providing you the most current information available, which is subject to changes, corrections, and updates,” Akamai said in a statement.

According to initial reports, other major tech platforms such as FedEx, Paytm Money, NDTV, Cricinfo, Cricbuzz, Hotstar, SonyLiv, Airbnb and HSBC also faced similar outages.

While some of the above-mentioned websites showed ‘can’t be reached, others showed ‘DNS failure’ while opening. 

Even food delivery app Zomato faced a similar outage. CEO Deepinder Goyal took to Twitter and informed about the same.

OTT platform Disney+Hotstar also said that they are facing a similar error and are trying to fix the glitch. "Due to an unexpected issue, you will not be able to access your favourite content. Our team is working on fixing this at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused," it said in response to a post on Twitter.
