Blinkit, BigBasket CEOs Playful Banter: 'What War?' Amid Quick Commerce Competition

The friendly exchange between the two industry leaders quickly caught on online, with one user commenting, “Happy to see this light-hearted discussion and not like other online companies”

In the rapidly evolving landscape of quick commerce, a surprising and light-hearted rivalry unfolded on Friday on social media between delivery giants Blinkit and BigBasket. The fun began with a tweet that humorously proposed a “war” between the two companies over who could deliver the iPhone 16 in under 10 minutes. This playful suggestion prompted a lively exchange between the CEOs of both firms.

The original tweet, which initiated this cheerful banter, noted the competitive spirit of quick commerce: “Quick commerce wars: BigBasket vs Blinkit competing on iPhone 16 deliveries in less than 10 mins. A decade ago, BigBasket and then Grofers had just started competing in the grocery delivery market.” The light tone of the interaction showcased the camaraderie that can exist even among industry rivals.

This playful exchange piqued the interest of Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa, who took to Twitter to share a friendly photo alongside BigBasket CEO Hari Menon. Dhindsa captioned the image in a lighthearted tone with a witty remark: “What war? cc @harimenon_bb.”

Menon promptly responded with his selfie featuring Dhindsa, stating, “No war! Great friends forever @albinder.”

The friendly exchange between the two industry leaders quickly caught on online, with one user commenting, “Happy to see this light-hearted discussion and not like other online news companies that stirs up controversy with hit pieces.”

Both companies have been locked in fierce competition for market share in India's rapidly evolving quick-commerce landscape. This sector is marked by its high stakes and aggressive rivalries, especially with the recent entry of Zepto. Zepto has quickly made a name for itself by offering lightning-fast delivery services, even promising to deliver the iPhone 16 in just 10 minutes. As a result, the competition among these companies has intensified, pushing them to innovate and improve their services to attract more customers.
