Bank Holiday For Dhanteras: Are Banks Shut Today? Check Here

Bank Holiday Today: Although Dhanteras is not a bank holiday, regional bank closures will occur on the days following the festival due to Diwali and related celebrations

As India celebrates Dhanteras on Tuesday (October 29, 2024), many are curious whether banks will remain closed or open for the occasion. However, the banks will stay open nationwide, providing uninterrupted access to financial services on this auspicious day when people traditionally buy gold, silver, and other valuables.

Although Dhanteras is not a bank holiday, regional bank closures will occur on the days following the festival due to Diwali and related celebrations. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has designated October 31, November 1, and November 2 as holidays for various states to accommodate specific regional festivities. Here’s a detailed overview of the upcoming closures.

Bank Holiday Schedule:

Thursday, October 31, 2024: Banks will be closed in certain states for Diwali (Deepavali), Kali Puja, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birthday, and Naraka Chaturdashi.

Friday, November 1, 2024: Banks will also be closed in states observing Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Pujan), Deepawali, Kut, and Kannada Rajyothsava.

Saturday, November 2, 2024: Selected regions will observe holidays for Diwali (Bali Pratipada), Balipadyami, Laxmi Puja (Deepawali), Govardhan Pooja, and Vikram Samvat New Year.

Customers are strongly encouraged to consult the official bank holiday list the Reserve Bank of India provided to verify the specific closure dates applicable in their region. While banks will be open on Dhanteras, allowing those who prefer in-branch transactions to proceed without any interruptions, it is essential to keep in mind the upcoming holidays. To ensure a smooth experience during the festive season, planning visits in advance is advisable. Additionally, utilising digital banking options can be a convenient alternative to avoid any potential inconveniences associated with bank closures during this busy time.

Additionally, most banking services are easily accessible online, allowing people to complete transactions and manage accounts from the comfort of their homes. Whether you need to transfer funds or check your balance, online banking ensures that financial needs are handled, even on holidays.
