7th Pay Commission: In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Budget 2019, Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta notified that from next year onwards BMC will hike its expenditure towards employees from the existing Rs.10,000 crore to Rs.12,000 crore due to the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations. “The civic body will bear an additional load towards employees’ salaries now onwards as the seventh pay commission is implemented. Till now, the BMC has spent Rs 10,000 crore towards the employees’ salaries and from next year, it will spend Rs 12,000 crore,” stated the MC. The Maharashtra Government had approved 7th Pay Commission recommendations, earlier this year, followed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The move brings cheer for over 2 lakh employees in service and pensioners of the BMC. After accepting the 7CPC recommendations, the BMC had notified that it’ll implement the same with retrospective effect, as per which, currently the employees are eligible to get arrears for the last 37 months. The BMC Budget 2019 has allocated Rs. 1200 Crore for the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations out of total Rs.30,696 Crore. The Civic House budget was increased to the tune of 13% in 2019 as compared to Rs.27,258 last year. As per the BMC Budget 2019, 20% of the arrears accruing from the Seventh Pay Commission implementation are to be paid in March salaries of the employees of BMC. Besides 7th CPC recommendations, BMC also approved to give 50% concession to senior citizens commuting through BEST Non-AC Buses. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also earmarked Rs.1520 Crore toward improvisation of roads and Rs.120 Crore for cycle track along the Tansa Water supply pipeline.
