Toyota Yaris Hatchback Spotted, Can This Be A Hybrid Launch For India?

Toyota Yaris is a premium hatchback and it roughly comes as the same size as the Hyundai i20 along with a line-up of petrol engines while it also comes with a hybrid powertrain.

The Toyota Yaris hatchback has been recently sighted in India, marking multiple sightings over an extended period of testing. This variant differs from the familiar Yaris sedan that was previously available in India and subsequently discontinued.

The Yaris hatchback is a global model sold in various markets, carrying the prestigious Yaris name, which is one of Toyota's longstanding car lineups. Its presence during testing in India has piqued curiosity. The Yaris hatchback is positioned as a premium hatchback, roughly comparable in size to the Hyundai i20. It offers a range of petrol engines and even features a hybrid powertrain option.

However, prospects for the Yaris hatchback's release in India remain uncertain due to Toyota's existing offering of the Glanza, as well as their current focus on products developed in collaboration with Maruti. The Yaris hatchback could potentially be considered too expensive for the Indian market, leading to doubts about its introduction.

Nonetheless, there is the exciting possibility of the high-performance GR Yaris, renowned as a classic in the realm of performance cars, becoming an enticing completely built-up (CBU) offering by Toyota to enrich its lineup. However, this remains a mere dream for now, as the current test car is likely used for component testing purposes.

Toyota has recently launched the new Innova Hycross and has plans to introduce the new generation Fortuner, while also working on developing new products for the Indian market.

Would we like the Yaris hatchback in India?

While the desirability of the Yaris hatchback in India is evident, with its appealing, distinctive, and funky design complemented by a premium interior, the likelihood of its placement above the Glanza appears slim, dampening hopes for its release.
