Toyota Rumion Is Younger Brother To Innova, Launch Next Year

Rumion is a rebadged Ertiga with some small styling changes and would be priced above the Ertiga yet below the Innova.

Toyota has been selling Maruti-badged cars in India for some time now with the Glanza, Urban Cruiser and the upcoming Belta. With these cars, it has been fairly successful in doing so hence it will only increase its range and fill its model line-up with more such offerings below the Innova and Fortuner.

This will make Toyota a bit more affordable in the Indian market. The Innova has always been and is a strong seller in the MPV segment but having moved upmarket the space is vacant below the Innova.

This is what Toyota plans to fill with its Rumion. It has been launched in South Africa now while an India launch could be next year. The Rumion is a rebadged Ertiga with some small styling changes and would be priced above the Ertiga yet below the Innova. Hence a price of Rs 11 lakh for the top-spec automatic is expected.

Like the Ertiga, the Rumion comes with a 1.5l petrol engine which you can opt for with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. By seeing the images you can spot the small changes like the new Toyota grille and the black alloys. Inside, the design is more black with a wood finish along with a different upholstery similar to the XL6 sold here.

The XL6 is basically a restyled Ertiga with a different cabin while the Rumion is obviously based on the Ertiga as seen here. We expect the Rumion to be priced at a premium yet still draw in customers who otherwise did not have the budget to get an Innova. Also with literally no competition for the Ertiga at the moment, the Rumion could very well be a strong competitor to its own sibling!
