Tata Tiago EV First Look Review: 9 Observations On India's Most Affordable EV

These are very competitive prices and that makes the Tiago EV the most affordable EV but it is still Rs 3 lakh plus over the petrol Tiago and this is introductory.

New Delhi: India's most affordable EV is here and we recently had a detailed first look at it so here are our 9 observations.

  1. The Tiago EV looks distinctive and more premium with EV-specific highlights like blue accents while it gets a tweaked bumper plus a blanked off grille along with different wheels. There are five colours but the Teal blue especially looks good.
  2. The interior quality is improved and feels more premium over the standard petrol Tiago. There are EV specific blue accents while the touchscreen size is similar, there is a lot of features on offer with connected car tech, TPMS, push button start, a different rotary gear selector, an 8-speaker Harman audio system,  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control and headlamps.

  3. The space on offer is similar and the cabin is decently spacious while the boot is also quite big while missing out on a spare wheel as it is replaced by a space saver which is there to compensate for the battery pack taking up space.

  4. The big talking point here is the battery pack as with also the Ziptron architecture, there is more range on offer and there is fast charging capability too. A DC fast charger will juice up the battery from 10%- 80% in just 57 mins but while fast chargers are not common, the more practical solution is the 7.2kW AC home fast charger which has a faster charging time of only 3 hour 36 minutes.

  5. We have not yet driven it but with a 24kWh battery pack, it is capable of delivering a Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC) range of 315km while there is also a 19.2kWh battery pack with a range of 250km.

  6. Majority production would be for the bigger 24kWh battery pack while both are IP67 rated battery packs. There are two drive modes as well with multi-mode regenerative braking on offer too with four levels.

  7. The one with the larger battery pack claims to have a 0 to 60 Kmph time of 5.7 seconds with 74hp and 114Nm.

  8. Of course the pricing has stolen the limelight with the Rs 8.4 lakh price and do note that it is for the 19.2kWh version while the 24kWh version begins from Rs 9.9 lakh. The top-end version with 7.2kW AC home fast charger is priced at Rs 11.7 lakh. However, these prices are introductory for 10,000 bookings while out of which 2000 are reserved for existing Tigor/Nexon EV buyers.

  9. These are very competitive prices and that makes the Tiago EV the most affordable EV but it is still Rs 3 lakh plus over the petrol Tiago and this is introductory. However, there are no rivals for the Tiago EV and the range is also quite impressive which means as a city based EV it is a very good choice while our drive review later will reveal more.
