Skoda To Rival Nexon EV In India As It Plans To Make Electric Cars Affordable
Skoda plans to make affordable electric vehicles for the Indian market which would also have export potential.
Skoda is moving towards electrification and also plotting its future, which includes affordable electric vehicles (EVs) made in India. It is evident that to be successful in the Indian market, localisation is key. Skoda plans to make affordable electric vehicles for the Indian market and with export potential. Although details remain unclear regarding the size and pricing of the car, it is expected to be similar to Kushaq and priced below Rs 20 lakh.
Skoda can utilize its global MEB platform and localise it for our market or opt for a front-wheel-drive platform. Mahindra plays a role in this scenario, as there is already an agreement for Mahindra to source MEB components for its INGLO electric platform.
It is also not clear whether the Kushaq would be the base for the said EV but there is a distinct possibility that it could be a smaller sub 4m SUV which is also planned for the Indian market. Although a timeline is not available, this new affordable EV is expected to arrive in India within the next two to three years. In the meantime, we can expect the ICE version of the subcompact SUV to be launched first, positioned below the Kushaq.
