New Hyundai Hybrid Powertrain That Can Power Its Future SUVs In India

There is a new transmission developed while the new, next-generation hybrid system also integrates Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and Regenerative Braking.

Yesterday Hyundai announced aggressive product launch plans for India including the fact that they will launch hybrid cars. Globally, the carmaker has also revealed its new hybrid powertrains which could also come to India. The new hybrid system will have two motors and paired with numerous ICE engines. There is a new transmission developed while the new, next-generation hybrid system also integrates Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and Regenerative Braking.

Amongst the new engines, there would be a 1.6-litre turbo hybrid that most likely could come to India with 380Nm torque and improved efficiency. Now in which SUV, the hybrid powertrain will come in is an interesting question and we would say that it could come in something like an all new SUV that will sit above the Alcazar/Creta while even the next generation Creta could have a hybrid engine too alongside the petrol/diesel/EV combination.

Hybrid options are limited in India to Maruti Suzuki and Toyota/Honda while Hyundai coming in with a hybrid will expand the hybrid line-up since hybrid clearly has a lot of fan following in India despite limited options. Despite limited options, hybrid sales have rivalled EVs regularly. We expect the first hybrid Hyundai to be launched in 2027 or end of 2026. With hybrids expect high fuel efficiency but with no need to charge it like an EV with also having an internal combustion engine.
