Honda will stop City diesel production from next year and the other cars like the Volkswagen Virtus and the Skoda Slavia have petrol engines only. However, Hyundai will provide both diesel and petrol engines with its upcoming new generation Verna. The new Verna would be taller, longer and will have a more spacious cabin.
It could rival the Virtus in being one of the longest cars in its class. The new Verna will also have a sleeker design language with the new look Hyundai design philosophy while being nearly as premium as the Elantra, which is of a segment above.
The new Verna will most likely have the engine options which revolve from a 1.0l turbo petrol to a 1.5l petrol while there would be a 1.5l diesel too seen on the Creta.
The turbo petrol could be offered with a DCT automatic with paddle shifters while the 1.5l petrol could also come with a CVT automatic. The new Verna will get a new look cabin with a larger touchscreen, bigger digital dials while getting premium features like ADAS and more. Currently the Tucson is the only Hyundai with ADAS features.
The only other sedan with ADAS currently is the Honda City hybrid while the Verna would be placed at a lower price point with ADAS.
The new Verna meanwhile will be a premium sedan that will give Hyundai a slice of the sedan segment which has seen a resurgence with the launches of the Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus and the Honda City hybrid. The new generation Verna will make its debut possibly at the 2023 Auto Expo
