Mercedes-AMG C43 Review: Top 5 Things You Need To Know About This Electrified Sedan

The new Mercedes-AMG C43 Sedan ditches the old six-cylinder pot for a new four-cylinder unit that pairs itself with a mild hybrid system for further electric boost for a combined out put of 408 hp.

Performance cars are also going through a seismic change which includes electrification, but in a different way. It is not about batteries or charging cables as electrification in performance cars like the AMG C43 is done differently but does show where this genre is headed towards. Hence, here are top 5 things about the newly launched Mercedes-AMG C43.

  1. The most talked about aspect about the C43 AMG is its powertrain of course as it debuts its new electrified four cylinder engine which replaces the earlier 6 cylinder one. The technology is more complex though as that involves the car getting an electric turbocharger. Being linked to a mild hybrid system for further electric boost, the new engine would leave behind the earlier 6 cylinder with a lot more power on top at 408bhp and 500 Nm. This electric turbocharger tech is something that is also deployed on the F1 race cars and is an example of how it filters down to road cars. In terms of the driving experience, the power delivery is much sharper and does not have any lag with the electric turbo doing what it is supposed to do. It is also loud like a performance car should be but not too much.
  2. The C43 AMG gets a 9-speed automatic gearbox and has the 4MATIC system which gives in superb grip and  makes it more stable than its earlier iteration. It feels lighter with the smaller capacity engine and agile too. There is some rearward bias here but you have to seriously provoke it to unsettle it.
  3. The C43 AMG looks sportier and does stand out from the crowd while signalling it is the sportier iteration of a C-Class here. The talking point here is the Panamericana grille along with larger intakes plus different headlamps too. Of course, the quad exhausts and the diffuser at the back are further indications of its performance.
  4. Inside, the layout is the same but you get AMG themed graphics while the flat-bottom steering wheel is nicer to hold along with a meaty grip. There are sports seats of course. Luxury features like a hi-end Burmester audio system are also there along with the other expected features.
  5. The C43 AMG is slightly on the pricey side at Rs 98 lakh and in comparison to rivals it is much more expensive but it does get more technology and has more power which it shows. It is also the most technologically advanced car in its class including F1 hence, in terms of the sheer performance, you get what you pay for!
