Confused Between Maruti Suzuki's Jimny And Grand Vitara? Get Your Doubts Cleared Here
Maruti Suzuki's Jimny 4x4 and the Grand Vitara bring in two difficult choices for buyers for an SUV. Here's what both have to offer.
The Jimny 4x4 has again established a sizable presence for Maruti Suzuki in the 4x4 lifestyle space but along with the Jimny, the Grand Vitara also has a different kind of go-anywhere capability with its AWD system. Hence, which SUV is better for you and what are the differences? Let us take a look.
The Jimny has an AllGrip Pro system while the Grand Vitara AWD gets an AllGrip Select system. Both are completely different but enable you to indulge in some off-road driving with the Jimny's system being the mosGt suited to off-roading. The Jimny has a proper 4x4 system which includes 4H and 4L along with 2-wheel drive high 2H. Hence, a low-range gearbox enables one to tackle serious off-roading or in conditions where grip is not there at all. You select this via a separate lever.
The Jimny is a lot more capable as an off-roader over the Grand Vitara AWD. The Grand Vitara AWD while being way more capable over standard front-wheel drive SUVs, has a simpler AWD system. Here, there is a round dial to choose from Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock. Here it is electronically controlled and you can select how the car behaves or whether you want more grip. For example in snow mode, under slippery conditions, power is sent to all four wheels to maintain traction. You can also lock it and power is sent to all four wheels for when you have tougher off-road environments to deal with. This helps during tricky conditions but it won't do very serious off-roading like the Jimny with its proper low-range gearbox.
The Jimny is smaller than the Grand Vitara and is more off-road focussed with less features but unlike the Grand Vitara AWD, you can get a Jimny with an automatic as the Grand Vitara AWD only comes with a manual gearbox.
