Maruti Celerio Vs Tata Tiago CNG — Know Mileage, Price & Other Features
With petrol prices still being high and with no diesel cars below the Rs 10 lakh mark, only CNG cars are the way to cheaper mobility. Two new choices have been added which gives more options to buyers
New Delhi: The fact that electric cars are still very much of a second option for the rich means that only CNG can be an alternative to petrol- for mass-market car buyers. With petrol prices still being high and with no diesel cars below the Rs 10 lakh mark, only CNG cars are the way to cheaper mobility. Thankfully, two new choices have been added which gives more options to buyers. That is the Celerio CNG and the Tiago CNG which both were launched within a day of each other.
Mileage
That is the main consideration when looking at a CNG car. Here, both are very efficient which is a key criterion. The Celerio CNG has an ARAI mileage of 35.60 km/kg while the Tiago CNG has a mileage of 26 km/kg.
Power
Here, the Tiago takes the lead with a 1.2l petrol engine which makes 73bhp/95Nm while the Celerio CNG makes 57 bhp/82Nm. Both cars have a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the weight of the cars has increased, the ground clearance of the Tiago is at 168 Nm. Do note that the power has reduced in both cars compared to pure petrol engine versions.
Features
Being CNG specific, the Tiago CNG can be started in CNG mode- something no other CNG car offers. Also, the Tiago is available in all trims, unlike the Celerio which is available in VXi trim. The Celerio does get the basics in this trim but the Tiago CNG has more choice in this matter with more trim options- XE, XM, XT, XZ+ plus features like the Projector Headlamps, LED DRLs, touchscreen, digital cluster, etc. The Tiago CNG also gets a single advanced ECU and auto switchover between fuels.
Prices
The Tiago CNG prices start at Rs 6.09 lakh while the top-end version is Rs 7.5 lakh. The Celerio CNG has priced at Rs 6.58 lakh. Overall, the Tiago CNG clearly is more premium with more choice and more variants along with added features while Celerio is more efficient. That said, choice depends on what you want ultimately- more features or more efficiency. However, with more choices in the CNG space, it is good news for the end customer as till now only Maruti and Hyundai offered CNG versions. With Tata now coming in, more players will also launch their own CNG-powered cars.
