Battle Of The Pick-Ups In India: Scorpio X Pik Up Vs Toyota Hilux — Know Details
In terms of length, the Toyota Hilux is 5,325mm and the Scorpio X (Pik up) has a length of 5,380mm, making the sizes similar. But what makes them unique?
The pick-up truck which remains one of the best selling cars in markets like the USA and Australia, has not yet taken off in India due to the lack of choice. While a few car makers brought them to the Indian market. Only Isuzu and Toyota have got a reasonable amount of success in India with a growing lifestyle space. Now, Mahindra has trademarked the ‘Scorpio X’ name which indicates that it will be bringing it to India along with global markets. Mahindra did show the X Concept in South Africa last year, and this will further grow the Scorpio brand. Presented as the Global Pik Up, it is based on the Scorpio but it is longer, wider, and more muscular. In fact, it matches with the Hilux in terms of size, since the Hilux has a length of 5,325mm, the Scorpio X (Pik up) has a length of 5,380mm.
The concept gets a black grille, new DRLs, and stands taller than the Scorpio SUV. It comes in double cab form, similar to the Hilux. Even the tyres are all-terrain ones and the ground clearance is much more than the SUV. It can be assumed that 4WD would be standard on the X just like also on the Hilux. Other off-road touches also include a roof rack, side steps and a tyre carrier. The interior, like the Hilux, borrows from the SUV sibling and gets the same features including, the infotainment system, features and more. Hence, for both size and features the Scorpio X or Pik up is a match for the Hilux.

While the Hilux is powered by a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, the Scorpio X or Pik Up comes with the 2.2 diesel also found on the Scorpio N. Despite a ladder frame platform, Mahindra says that the cars are lighter than the earlier ones based on this architecture.
So, while the Hilux is priced between Rs 30-37 lakh, the Scorpio X would be priced at Rs 24 lakh or thereabouts for the top-end version. Looking at the lack of choices in this price bracket the upcoming Scorpio X could be the one to kickstart the pick-up segment with its pricing and the Scorpio brand name. Expect a launch by next year as this year, the car-maker's hands are already full with the Thar 5-door and more.
