New Generation Creta EV To Get More Than 500 Km Range And e-GMP Platform

The Creta electric most probably will not share anything with the current Creta and instead would be based on a new platform.

New Delhi: It is no secret that Hyundai is developing its made-for-India EV and it will most likely carry the Creta brand name. The Creta name is one of the most recognised brands and for its electric compact SUV, using this brand makes sense.

However, Creta electric most probably will not share anything with the current Creta and instead would be based on a new platform. It would be a localised version of the e-GMP platform which also underpins the likes of the Ioniq 5 in India which was launched recently. That would help the design to be unique along with having a flat floor for more space on the inside.

We expect the Creta electric to get a minimum 500km plus range and a larger battery pack though there could be multiple choices in terms of battery options. The Creta electric would be a premium compact SUV while being priced between Rs 15-25 lakh. The higher rate of localisation will enable Hyundai to also price it aggressively. Hyundai till 2025 will be bringing premium EVs while its first made-for-India EV will be coming in 2025 and will be a very important product for the car maker.

The Creta electric would aim to compete with other similar new EVs from Maruti Suzuki and Kia which are also developing EVs for India. A bespoke EV architecture means flexibility in terms of space and packaging which will in turn give the EVs a head start with more conventional cars. While 2025 is some time away, the infrastructure is expected to be strengthened by then and more EVs will also mean more choices for the Indian car buyer. Hyundai meanwhile is getting ready to launch the new Verna next month.
