Hyundai Announces New Micro SUV To Take On Tata Punch In India

The new SUV is understood to be different from the Casper small SUV and has been designed with new-age Hyundai styling cues.

Hyundai has announced the launch of a new micro SUV in India that will compete with the Tata Punch. The South Korean automaker's latest offering is expected to be positioned below the Venue, making it the second product by Hyundai in the 4m SUV segment. The micro SUV has been designed and developed for the Indian market, with an emphasis on meeting local tastes and preferences.

The new micro SUV is set to feature radical styling language, which will differentiate it from the Casper small SUV. The latter was deemed too expensive for the Indian market, leading to the development of this new vehicle with new-age Hyundai styling cues. Under the hood, the vehicle is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with the possibility of a CNG option.

The SUV will be based on the Nios and will share the same engine options as the Nios. This means that it will be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with an AMT and a manual gearbox. However, it is unlikely to feature a turbo petrol engine, as this will be reserved for the Venue.

Inside the cabin, the micro SUV is expected to be feature-packed, with a sportier look and a youthful feel. It will come with a touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, smartphone connectivity, and a rearview camera. Other features such as cooled seats may also be available.

Hyundai is expected to reveal more details about the micro SUV soon, including its design and other specifications. The new vehicle is considered crucial for the automaker in terms of sales volumes, as it will compete with other micro SUVs in the market, such as the Nissan Magnite and the Tata Punch.
