EV With Highest Range? Check The India Review Of BMW iX xDrive50
Visually, the iX remains a striking design with its super slim headlamps along with a large grille while the xDrive 50 wears larger 22-inch alloy wheels
The iX has been one of the best selling luxury EVs in India but it needed a larger battery for more range which BMW India has finally done with the xDrive 50 model. Here, while the price is now Rs 1.4 crore, there is a lot more power at hand along with a much larger battery pack. Visually, the iX remains a striking design with its super slim headlamps along with a large grille while the xDrive 50 wears larger 22-inch alloy wheels.
The shape is radical and looks cool for sure. Inside, it is unlike any other BMW with a lounge like vibe plus the focus on luxury is there to see with the crystal elements used to the material quality. There is a large curved display as before which controls most of the functions including even the climate control ones.
Elsewhere, the hexagonal shaped steering wheel is also something different. There is plenty of equipment on offer too (powered seats with massage, four zone climate control, heads-up display etc) while the sense of space is huge with a flat floor along with the largest glass roof (fixed) on a BMW which can turn opaque as well.
Chauffeur driven owners will like the rear seat which is comfortable and spacious. Wish for a larger boot though. The iX xDrive50 though is also best enjoyed from behind the wheel since it now gets a much larger 111.5 kWh battery pack and a more powerful dual motor configuration with 516bhp and 765Nm.
However, it is the range which is the highlight as it has climbed up to 600kmplus while in the real world you should get 500km, which is way more than the previous iX with the smaller battery pack. Performance is brisk and even in its efficiency mode, it is quick and smooth. Sport is best used on an empty road since it is very fast indeed. It is actually shocking how this massive two tonne plus SUV moves with so much power- that's EVs for you!
The iX also now gets adjustable air suspension which makes it the most comfortable BMW and you can also raise the ground clearance which is handy on our roads. The steering while being direct is not as fun as say an X5 but offers enough confidence while handling is surprising for being such a large car. You can charge the iX with a fast AC charger in about 11 hours, while a fast DC charger will only take 35 minutes.
Prices have gone up considerably though over the xDrive40 as the xDrive50 is now Rs 1.4 crore above rivals. That said, the new battery pack, more powerful motors and the suspension enable it to be the near perfect luxury EV. It looks distinctive but is also the most comfortable BMW for our roads along with a higher range than rivals too. Hence, while you pay more you also get a lot more in this new iX.
