2021 Tata Tiago NRG First Review: A Combination Of SUV And Hatchback
2021 Tata Tiago NRG First Review: The Tiago NRG is not a new model but Tata Motors have brought it back in a new avatar. It gets the new look Tiago face and an increased ground clearance.
If you have Rs 6-7 lakh to spend on a car, chances are that you would either look for a base variant of a subcompact SUV or a fully loaded hatchback or compact sedan. However if you want the ground clearance of an SUV along with the convenience of a hatchback, then the Tiago NRG might just be the one for you. It currently has no rivals and is a crossover of sorts. The Tiago NRG is not a new model but Tata Motors have brought it back in a new avatar. It gets the new look Tiago face and an increased ground clearance along with interior changes.
We will talk about the exterior first and it looks quite attractive with the new grille and the headlamps which are connected to it. Then you see a faux skid plate and cladding to give it that SUV look. It even has roof-rails. The contrast black mirrors are also a nice touch. Even the wheels are dark coloured 15-inch ones. The extended ground clearance can be seen with the new Tiago NRG having a ground clearance of 181mm. That is near SUV like.
The interiors are more or less the same as the standard Tiago. Of notable mention includes the new look instrument cluster which is digital and a nice 7-inch touch screen. For the price, it is one of the better ones out there and it has smartphone connectivity, a rear-view camera and other features too. It also gets a Harman sound system which has a nice sound quality along with a drivers height adjustable seat and auto fold mirrors.
All this for Rs 6.6 lakh is pretty good value. Surprisingly the lack of an auto climate control feature is the only part of the interior which we did not like. Space is the same as the Tiago and it is roomy for sure.
In terms of engine options, the NRG continues with the 1.2l petrol along with having an AMT and a manual gearbox. The manual is priced at Rs 6.6 lakh while the AMT is Rs 7.09 lakh. Hence for the price of a base variant compact SUV you get a fully loaded hatchback with good ground clearance. Something to think about then and the 2021 NRG it seems, turns out to be quite a good choice for its price.
What we like- Design, value, ground clearance, touchscreen
What we do not like- No auto climate control offered
