Utpanna Ekadashi 2023: Tasks You Need To Perform On The First Ekadashi Of Margashirsha Month

The date of Utpanna Ekadashi in 2023: In December, many fasts and festivals are celebrated. Among them, the festivals from Utpanna Ekadashi to Margashirsha Purnima are considered significant. The month of Margashirsha is regarded as the best for chanting, meditation, and austerity. Taking a holy bath in sacred rivers during this month is believed to be auspicious. The Ekadashi that occurs in this month holds great importance. According to mythological beliefs, Ekadashi Mata was born on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi, hence it is called Utpanna Ekadashi. This year, the Utpanna Ekadashi fast will be observed on December 8, Friday.

What Is Devi Ekadashi?

Devi Ekadashi is considered a form of the energy of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that on this day, she manifested and defeated the demon Mur. Therefore, this Ekadashi is known as Utpanna Ekadashi. It is said that on this day, Lord Vishnu personally blessed Mata Ekadashi and declared this fast as great and venerable. Observing the Utpanna Ekadashi fast liberates a person from the sufferings of past and present lives and destroys all their sins.

Rituals Of Ekadashi Fast:

Those observing this Ekadashi fast should not eat on the night of Dashami, which is a day before Ekadashi. On the day of Ekadashi, one should wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and make a resolution for the fast. After that, worship of Lord Vishnu should be performed, offering flowers, water, incense, lamp, and unbroken rice. On this day, consuming only fruits is considered excellent.

On Utpanna Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped. Those who perform acts of charity and virtue on this auspicious day do not have to face any difficulties. It is advisable to donate grains on this auspicious day.

On this day, one should meditate on Lord Vishnu in the afternoon and at night. After the evening worship, staying awake throughout the night is recommended. The next day, Dvadashi, the fast should be concluded by giving food and donations to a needy person or a Brahmin. After that, one should break the fast by having a meal.
