'Andhra People Feel Cheated': Y S Sharmila Writes To PM Modi On Unfulfilled Bifurcation Commitments

The APCC president said 10 years have passed by since the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh but none of the promises have been met till date.

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Y S Sharmila on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to fulfill several unresolved promises made to the state during the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh.

In the letter, the APCC president listed eight unfulfilled promises outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act such as the Special Category Status, declaring the Polavaram Project as a national irrigation project, and building a new capital city, among others, reported PTI.

“Today, the state stands at a crossroads of confusion, chaos and hopelessness, feeling disheartened, a painful situation that we request you to empathise with,” she wrote in the letter.

Sharmila asserted that 10 years have passed by since the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh but none of these promises have been met till date, as per the PTI report.

Referring to the Andhra Pradesh Partition Act of 2014, Sharmila emphasised the permanent nature of the divided state and called for the fulfillment of promises made by the Congress government at the time.

Sharmila insisted that unfulfilled promises should be addressed during the upcoming budget session of Parliament.

“In this juncture, the Congress party, with a heavy heart, patiently lists out the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. We would like to put forth our appeal, on behalf of the 5.5 crore people of Andhra Pradesh, that these points be included in the President’s Speech to be delivered on the first day of the Parliament Budget sessions on January 31, 2024,” she stated in the letter, reported ANI.

She further pointed out that the people of Andhra Pradesh continue to feel cheated due to the apathy of governments that failed to deliver their promises. She stated that the honesty quotient of the Centre will also come into question, the PTI report added.

According to PTI,  Sharmila appealed to Modi on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh to include these points in the President’s speech on the first day of the Parliament Budget session on January 31.

She also urged PM Modi to reconsider the government’s decision to privatise the Vizag steel plant.
