Mattis terms strike on Syria 'one-time shot'

Washington DC [United States], Apr. 14 (ANI): US Defense Secretary James Mattis termed the initial airstrikes on Syria as a 'one-time shot' while saying that 'no additional attacks have been planned.'

He further said that the airstrikes were launched at Syrian Government's chemical weapons infrastructure that helped provide Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's ability to create chemical weapons.

"Right now we have no additional attacks planned. The airstrikes were launched against several sites. Right now this is a one-time shot but is not ruling out further attacks," Mattis was quoted as saying by CNBC at a news conference at the Pentagon on Friday.

Mattis further informed that there were no reports of any injury or loss of lives during the initial airstrikes.

He also warned of certain disinformation campaign which could be carried out by Assad regime after the U.S. attack.

President Trump on Friday announced that the U.S., France and Britain had launched military strikes against Syria.

The strikes came in the wake of an alleged chemical weapons attack, allegedly carried out by Syria in the suburb of Damascus that killed dozens of civilians on April 7.

Mattis also said he is 'confident' that Assad regime conducted the alleged chemical attack on his people. "U.S. is very much aware of one of the chemical agents used," Mattis added. (ANI)
