India extends support to bring peace in Korean peninsula

New Delhi [India], Mar 9 (ANI): India has extended its support to all the efforts that are being made to bring peace and stability in the Korean peninsula.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Friday said, "India supports all efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Korean peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy."

"We hope that such engagement will help in reducing tensions and pave the way for lasting peace and reconciliation in the Korean peninsula," he added.

In a recent development, two senior officials of National Intelligence Service and National Security Office in South Korea are scheduled to visit Japan next week.

Both North and South Korea have established a dialogue among them regarding the denuclearisation of North Korea after being persisted by Japan and the United States.

Kumar further said that India believes that any solution to the issues in Koran peninsula must be taken into account.

South Korea had earlier sent a team of envoys to North Korea to discuss regarding denuclearisation. Post which the North Korean leader agreed to hold a summit with President Moon Jae-in in April and further expressed willingness to hold denuclearisation talks with the United States.

On the similar lines, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe would be meeting US President Donald Trump in April to pressurise North Korea to abandon its nuclear programme.

On Thursday, President Trump accepted an invitation and agreed to meet North Korean leader Kim Jon Yung in May. However, he stated that sanctions on North Korea would remain in place until the communist country achieved denuclearisation. (ANI)
