16 killed in Bangladesh road mishap

Dhaka [Bangladesh], Jun 23 (ANI): At least 16 people were killed and 40 others were wounded on Saturday when a bus hit a roadside tree and overturned in Bangladesh's Gaibandha's Palashbari Upazila district.

The accident occurred on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, the death toll is likely to increase. The injured were rescued and taken to the hospital in the area.

The identities of the deceased have not been ascertained yet.

Out of the 16 dead, seven people are said to have died on the spot.

According to the police, most of the people admitted to the hospital are in critical condition, adding that many of them have not yet regained consciousness.

The highway was closed for traffic for about an hour-and-a-half following the accident and was resumed later after rescue workers moved the bus from the road.(ANI)
