Israel Hezbollah War: Understanding the Implications of Israel's Three-Front War, Insights from Experts

Israel conducted a strike on an apartment in Beirut on Monday, marking the first attack within the Lebanese capital amidst escalating hostilities against Hezbollah. The strike targeted the upper floor of an apartment building in the Kola district, resulting in at least two fatalities, as reported by Reuters. There has been no immediate comment from Israeli authorities regarding this incident. This attack represents Israel's first direct strike on the city itself since the outbreak of conflict following the October 7 Hamas attack, which sparked a broader regional war. Tensions in the Middle East are currently at an all-time high, with Israel increasing its attacks on both Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi militia in Yemen. Just the day before, Israeli airstrikes targeted Houthi positions in Yemen and numerous Hezbollah sites across Lebanon, following the killing of a Hezbollah leader. In Yemen, at least four individuals were killed and 29 others injured due to Israeli airstrikes on the port city of Hodeidah, according to the Houthi-run health ministry. In Lebanon, the total death toll from Israeli attacks has surpassed 100, with more than 6,000 people wounded over the past two weeks, as reported by Lebanon's health ministry, which did not clarify how many of those casualties were civilians. Amid these developments, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that he would be speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing the need to avoid an all-out war in the region. Biden did not specify when he intended to have this conversation.
