Wayanad Landslides: Rescue Operation Ongoing, Death Toll Rises To 151 | ABP News
In Kerala's Wayanad district, landslides triggered by heavy rains early Tuesday have resulted in at least 151 deaths and 128 injuries, according to police. Over 800 people were rescued by the end of Tuesday’s operation, but the death toll is expected to rise as many are feared trapped under the rubble. The landslides struck while people were asleep, causing widespread devastation. Many homes have been flattened, rivers are swollen, and numerous trees have been uprooted.
Rescue teams from the Army, Navy, and NDRF are working amidst severe weather to locate victims. Relief efforts have paused for the night and will resume on Wednesday morning. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has confirmed that the injured are being treated in various hospitals.
