Tipu Sultan Controversy: BJP opposes 'naming' of garden after ruler, locals support MVA govt
The BJP opposed the 'naming' of a newly renovated garden after Tipu Sultan on Wednesday, stating that the 18th century Mysore king persecuted Hindus and that his name should not be used for a public institution. However, Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh, who launched new facilities at the garden in Malvani, maintained that it had always been known as Tipu Sultan's Garden and that no new nomenclature had been introduced. Students who have been playing on this ground for years supported Shaikh.
